Care When Lifting Wardrobes On The Removal
If you are looking to do a removal where you are involved in the process, then it is extremely important that you are able to get the job done properly. Whilst you may just be an extra pair of hands on a move that is being carried out by professionals, you will still find that you need to be assured and confident in the ways in which to do things. The fact is that removals can be dangerous, and you will need to know how to prevent dangerous things form happening and causing damages or injury. One of the main things to know about is lifting heavy items, as this is where most removals accidents happen. If you are not used to moving large or heavy objects, it is a good idea to read up on the full safety guides to lifting that can be found on the internet. Talk over the move with the removals team as well, to be sure that you are totally confident with how things are going to go ahead. First off, you need to assess the wardrobe itself. You will find that there are many different shapes, sizes and types of wardrobes, and these factors can seriously affect how you lift them. You will need to be sure as to how the unit is going to react under the pressure that you put it, as otherwise things can get pretty hairy. For a start, have a look as to whether it could be successfully taken apart. Many flat pack build wardrobes will be fine to dismantle, but there can be a risk in this, as they are rarely as strong when put back together, so be extremely careful with this when you are taking it apart. If you can’t take the whole thing down, then at least try and get rid of the doors, shelves and drawers if you can. This will reduce the weight considerably. The doors of a wardrobe are often hazards in that they can swing or slide shut, which will be a nightmare if you fingers are in the way. You will find that it is pretty easy to get a decent hand hold if the doors are off as well, as there will be more easily gripped areas of the unit. Be sure that the whole thing is solid enough to lift without flexing or breaking, by giving it a small push. If it starts to flex or bend, then you should be wary of following through with the lifting in that sense, as it may well buckle under the pressure. If you are in this position, try rocking it on to its back before you lift, as this will spread the weight that is resting on the unit itself. When you are lifting the unit, be sure to do so with another person, or with a sack barrow that will take the weight easily. You need to be sure to communicate with the other people involved in the move, as this will ensure that every one is aware of how you are going about the lifting process, and will ensure that you are not likely to run in to anyone whilst you are carrying such a large and heavy item. You will most likely find that the best way to do this is to talk over the process of getting the wardrobe moved in advance of doing it, as this will ensure that you are all on the same page going forward with the process.
